William Lane Craig and Richard Dawkins Debate Universal Purpose
I do not know how it managed to escape me, but I missed this debate. Or at least I missed it in my feeds.
Richard Dawkins showed up, much to the surprise of Dr. Craig. Dr. Craig expected Michio Kaku to attend, but Dr. Kaku opted out by stating that he had no strong views on the subject, one way or the other. Kaku did, however, elect to attend, seemingly, as a neutral party. I noticed that he sat on the side of the athiests, though. Nevertheless, for me, Michio Kaku had the best response. Mine would be similar. Dr. Kaku believes that the issue of…
Does the Universe Have a Purpose?
…is undecideable. He even thinks that both sides were wrong. He summed it up by saying that neither could be 100% certain. Although I can say that Dawkins seemed the most emotionally certain, while Craig seemed the more rationally certain of the two, regarding their differing world views.
For me, I would choose to parallel Dr. Kaku’s view by focusing on similarities. I would say that both sides are right; they just aren’t completely right. I would, as is to be expected, give the edge to the believers. I just happen to think that
evidence for the existence of a universal purpose is stronger than the evidence presented against it.
